About Me

I have been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil. My mother used to carry a notepad and pencil around in her purse when I was a child, to keep me amused during long waits. Throughout my childhood I experimented with different media, but rediscovered coloured pencil a few years ago and felt like I'd come home to something familiar and beloved.

Inspired by the work of Glen Loates and Robert Bateman, but wanting a slightly more painterly style, I love to depict nature in a realistic manner but with my own interpretations. Coloured pencil allows for a great deal of control and lots of detail. Being a sun-lover living in Canada, my first floral series was all bright yellow flowers, mostly sunflowers.

When I want to evoke specific emotions and be more experimental, I turn to acrylics. This is a perfect medium for adding other components, such as seashells and rocks collected on a special outing with a friend, texture and depth.

I have lived in Alberta, Germany, and rural Ontario and now live in Kingston, Ontario, which I love because of the waterfront, history, and arts community.
